Where are the people coming from?
It seems that in 2004 & 2005 most of the Washington County Residents changed homes---about 16% of the total county household population. Roughly 4,900 individuals moved from other counties in Utah. Another 5,600 persons moved from other states. In addition, about 1,300 individuals moving to Washington Country from other counties. (Note that 60% of this number were native-born Americans and a large majority of them were returned missionaries.)
The Age Factor
The survey reveals that, of those, who moved in from other states and counties, only 20 percent were 60 years or older. 20% of the immigrants hadn't yet reached their 18th birthday. About 15% were young adults from 18 to 24.
45% of people moving to Washington County could be counted in their prime working years - from 25 to 59. Those moving from other states tended to be the oldest. Their median age was 37.4 years. The median age of 2004 Washington County residents measured only 30.4 years. Those moving from other Utah counties had a median age of only 23 years.
Utah's population reached 2.2 million in 2000 and is expected to reach 5.4 million by the year 2050. Although the annual growth rates will gradually decline from 2.4% in 2000 to 1.3% in 2050, they will remain more than twice the projected rates for the nation as a whole.
